All of the market testing and research has been 100% positive. Everyone seems to identify with it quicker. It makes immediate sense and is shorter, and catchier and gives us room to expand as a company.

It is, after all what we have been talking about from the beginning.  This your company.  This is Your enterprise, your venture, your story, your customers, your product portfolio ... all of it is yours.  So, ... YourNetBiz was for more consistent with what it is we have.  This is, after all, about you!

We are the same company, same leadership, same support, same PBAs, same programming team, just an enhanced brand.

As far as the domain, the only thing it has been used for is your login to your back office.  That login is now;

We've completed a corporate identity page for our brand as well. It briefly describes who we are, our mission and vision, what we market, and our charitable giving programs.

The corporate page is also catchy and different than anything we've seen out there. The idea, of course is to keep your customers on it longer.

As for your marketing links and your marketing, rest assured, there is nothing you  need to immediately do.  All your links will be forwarded to our new marketing tour.  No one sent traffic to our previous corporate page anyway as there was no reason.

Normally, I wouldn’t write here about ad rates for Web content. But as a consumer of Web-based entertainment and information, I found this kind of encouraging:  Bloomberg is saying that The Simposons is making more money on ads in its online incarnation on Hulu than it is on broadcast TV. Um, that’s revenue per thousand viewers, which is how these things are usually measured–the show still makes three times as much from Fox airings than Hulu, simply because there are so many people watching prime-time TV.

I recognize that Twitter isn’t the only platform that can power social syndication, but I think it is far and away the best one to leverage for the job. It has one of the largest active (and very interactive) communities around, and is built on top of a truly open publishing platform. It also enjoys great third party support with a healthy development ecosystem forming around it. And most importantly, it’s run by people who really understand the potential of the platform they’ve built.

Using a social syndication model, you will enjoy a far larger surface area of discovery than you could ever realize with a more traditional feed model.

It’s the next stage in the evolution of RSS…

The process is fairly straight forward. Twitter users can search for Tweets on a topic using HashTags, keywords, and a fairly detailed set of additional criteria. They can also limit the results they get to only those tweets that include links, returning posts that tend to be more news/editorial in nature. When they are happy with the search, a single click from the results page turns it in to a standard RSS feed. I put together this short video to demonstrate how it works:

While the results from the specific search I set up in this video would probably be too broad for most people to deal with, the process used does highlight the unique nature of this approach.

Getting links from other websites is not the only way to attract visitors to visit your blog. This time, we are going to explore alternative methods to attract high quality traffic with both free and paid methods.

The first thing you can do to generate traffic is to recycle all the content you have written on your blog. What I really mean is to turn your blog posts into little “manuals” or articles that help people solve their problems or offer valuable information and submit them to article directories. These article directories are like aggregators that collect articles of similar themes together in one place, so they receive thousands and thousands of qualified visitors every day.

When you submit your articles to these directories, you are exposing your name to the thousands of pairs of eyes visiting them for free! On most article directories, you are also permitted to include a “resource box” where you can include your contact details, a simple biography and so on. This is where you can truly leverage the traffic of the said article directories.

Another excellent way to gain traffic is to join internet forums that is based on your niche. To find these kind of forums, just go to any search engine and enter “<your niche> +forum”, without the quotes. How do you reach the people that can’t afford to take part in social media?

The marketing myth of "free" social media

Marketers and PR people are all over Twitter, FaceBook, etc. They love “social media” because they can get past the “gate keepers” in traditional media.

And there have been several instances where they’ve managed to promote their clients at seemingly little or no cost.

But they haven’t asked how this affects their business model?

For a long time I’ve been saying that the same media technologies transforming the business model for media are transforming the business model for PR. Yet this relationship wasn’t as evident in PR for several years because the old business model was still working. The difference between the two industries has been in the timing of the disruptive trends affecting them.

But as the economy cuts budgets and clients look toward social media to get their messages out, will they continue to pay for PR at traditional levels? They won’t because they see social media as being close to free.

However, social media is not free. Here are some more thoughts on this topic:

The use of search engine optimization is very much needed in defining the success of your online business. The traffic that your website generates indicates the potential sales it can provide for your product. The use of SEO techniques in maintaining favorable traffic has been widely used by online advertisers to gain advantage over other competitors. The page views are very much critical since it indicates how effective the website is in gathering potential customers. This also takes advantage of the people’s habit of looking for services, products and information using search pages.

Today, thousands of Internet marketers and webmasters employ SEO techniques in an attempt to raise their rankings in major search engines. They do this by optimizing on page factors, and by building back links to their sites. This combination makes it easy for the search bots to determine the overall theme of the site. For example, if you own a website about money making, you can optimize your site so that the crawlers will lap up every web page that you post online. How do you do that?

First, start with on page factors. These are elements that have full control over. Make sure that you include your target keyword phrases in your page title, your Meta tags, and your article body. Don’t stuff your web page content with unnecessarily keywords. Just sprinkle it all over, like what you would ordinarily do if there are no search engines around. In other words, write naturally. You must remember, it’s not only the bots that are reading the content. You have to keep your human readers in mind as well.

But on page optimization is only half of the process. The other half, is a little more tricky, for it involves link building. The problem is, you don’t own these sites, and you have no control over external sites. So how do you get them to link back to you?

Twitter Bio Search

Twitter Bio SearchI just realized I never posted here about my recent Twitter Bio Search Tool, TweepSearch. I guess I’ve just been a little heads down lately. I’ve been busy with various Twitter apps, work, and I’ll be heading to Boston tomorrow for the SOURCE con and to visit with friends and family.Anyway, TweepSearch - the original idea of the site was to allow somebody on Twitter to search the bios of their followers.

It was inspired by a tweet from @SethSimonds and you can read more on the About page. However, once I started building it, I realized I was creating a more generic Twitter bio search application. I just updated the application yesterday and it now allows you to login (non-SSL, I’ll be fixing that eventually) and (un)follow directly from the interface, searches all Twitter profile fields by default, and allows you to search your friends and followers.

Some examples:Search for security peeps in Seattle: location: seattle security
Search my friends and followers for security peeps: @dacort security
Search my friends for peeps in Boston: @dacort only:friends location: boston
Except for those folks I’ll see at the con ;): @dacort only:friends location:boston -hacker -security
As you can see, the search syntax is pretty extensive. I’d like to add geo-based searches in the future as the full-text indexing engine I’m using supports it. Thinking Sphinx, the Rails plugin for Sphinx is also amazing and I have to thank EC2 for allowing me to scale so quickly when the site first got hammered due to a great post on louisgray.com courtesy of Jesse Stay.

Adding Google Friend Connect activity to your FriendFeed is not hard to do when you know a few “work around” tricks, and I can show you how to get it done in 10 easy steps! The challenge is that FriendFeed does not allow Google Friend Connect to be added to its’ stream yet and that your Google Friend Connect Feed that goes through Plaxo is not able to be read by FriendFeed, Facebook etc…

I have to say with a little bit of an evil chuckle, that by adding your Google Friend Connect to your FriendFeed, and having the FriendFeed app enabled in Facebook, you can now feed your Google Friend Connect activity straight into Facebook for all your Facebook friends to see… And since Facebook has made it so damn hard to integrate THEIR Friend Connect app on the average users blog, you will likely have some of your jealous Facebook friends climb out of the walled garden to come and play with you in the real world. *wink*

It seems everywhere you turn these days there’s an excitable story about Twitter, the microblogging tool that is a mystery to some people, a miracle to others, and a service some are noisily evangelizing in hope of self publicity.

As Twitter scales up in user numbers, the level of hysteria seems to be going through the roof. Along with a huge army of self proclaimed social media experts, most of whom appear never to have actually worked on or been around a grown up marketing campaign in their lives, we also have the bullhorn aggregator brigade - the folks that busily hoover up information and then breathlessly and sometimes bossily rebroadcast to anyone listening.
